Pros: A four day week and a lemon verbena revival. Cons: A 5am start and the wrongs clothes (again)

I have no excuse, a friend was extremely happy about the weather forecast when I spoke to her Monday evening but I still packed for the usual (plus for a scrub up appointment).  Scraping ice off the car at 5.15am failed to alert me to a sudden last minute addition, like T shirts or shirts.  The black trouser suit, ankle boots and white silk top for Tuesday’s appointment was entirely appropriate and easily wearable.  No tugging at anything, no painful feet.  No best dressed awards incoming either but it was an occasion when boring yet appropriate would do.  For once it was that business casual wardrobe I actually thought I had sorted a few years back that failed.  Dark wash straight legged jeans, matching coloured crew neck sweater, ankle boots, blazer and silk scarf.  That sweater in 24 degree heat was just wrong.  The blazer wasn’t an ideal addition either but it could be taken off.  Since that one silk top was not going to stretch for three days it was a rather warm couple of days at the office.

In an ideal world lunches would have been spent feeding ducks in the local park.  Even without the obliteration of a civilisation it is not and was not an ideal world so cheese, salami, bread, chutney and simnel cake at my desk it was then with the roof light open to let in a little air.

Anyway the weekend will be arrive a little more quickly than normal and right now I’m clinging to that.  We managed to get home before completeness darkness and a quick trip to my greenhouse revealed loads of seedlings rather than just compost to water.  Even better, my lemon verbena plant is coming back to life and I was pretty certain I had killed it this time.

Typically the weather is not looking quite so good for the weekend which is unfortunate when I have some paving slabs to lay so that the robot mower can go to the other of my parents’ lawns.  It seems, however, my Mum has another suggestion for the mower lawn ‘bridge’.  I rather fear that this is aimed at saving a 1ft by 4 ft strip of spring flowers and bulbs whilst failing to recognise possibly rather more extensive groundworks may be required to render the alternative route viable.  If memory serves it is also below/alongside a selection of bird feeders and I’m not entirely sure how the garden bird population are going to take to a robot patrolling their fat balls.  Still a solution will be found though I may have to establish precisely what the problem is first.
