Windows and invisibility issues
The windows are being installed next week, a week earlier than planned. That was something to do with the girlfriend of the younger of the installers going in to be induced when they were going to do them. There’s an influencing factor I had not considered!
There are pros and cons to this process. The pros being the windows are going in and this will be another thing off the joint ‘to do’ list for the year. The cons being (a) our diaries have us working at home for the first two days of this process (I was hoping we might either be away, away or the office, away) there is a degree of disarray (unsurprisingly) and I don’t take well to such disruptions; and (b) this means I have some running around with regard to clearing space near windows and more pertinently getting the monies out of one account and into another from where I can do a bank transfer when the job is done. If that sounds convoluted, it is. Nationwide will not let me transfer directly out of my cash ISA because I do not have a current account with them. It may be slightly more complicated their end than that but suffice to say I had to get a cheque from Nationwide made payable to me, pay it in to my current account at another bank and then transfer from there.
I would just mention that I have had some sort of savings account with Nationwide since I was a child and my initial mortgage with them. You would think that this process could be made easier. Having said that I have had my current account and a savings account with the same high street bank since I was 16. This is the same branch that my parents have been with since I was 5 years old. No one ever appears to recognise me at either and for counter services I am always ID’d. Then again, I went in to the local theatre this morning to see if they had any tickets for an upcoming show. They didn’t but have put me on the waiting list. That was a close run thing though as they were determined to use my MiL’s contact details rather than my own. She may enjoy Songs and Strories with Toyah Wilcox but it is not one that immediately associate with her. A similar situation arose at the local garden centre when I was trying to get my loyality points on to my account but did not have my card with me. One day I may actually become visible in my own right to the businesses that I interact with on a regular basis. That day was not today.
Anyway I digress - am definitely turning into a grumpy old woman.
I’m hoping the Robins are cool with the window replacement works but really I’m more bothered about my stairs, landing and bedroom carpet. Remarkably, for us, we have kept this relatively clean in the 5 years since it went down. It is not used to outdoor shoes so dust sheets are going down. The house is already looking rather topsy turvy.
I am also mildly embarrassed at the state of the old windows. I haven’t cleaned them for months! They are, however, going and I’m not so embarrassed that I’m going to clean them now. May have to try harder in future.
