The first seeds sown and a kitchen garden plan
Sunday saw one main vegetable bed dug over. It has bindweed so the no dig method doesn’t really work for it and I don’t want manure on it as it will be a mixed bed and I don’t really want forked carrots. It will get some compost and some blood, fish and bone on it to give things a bit of a boost.
Beyond that and a few more brambles into the garden waste bins for collection this week I started some seed sowing in the greenhouse.
Jalopenos and Habanero chillis are in the propagator, two pots of carrots (one orange, one mixed) are currently on the floor but will move higher, when I get things sorted, to protect them from carrot root fly. I’ll sow a later crop into the ground also but that will be done after May in the hope that the carrot root fly have given up by then.
Tomatoes - Moneymaker, Red Giant and Roma -together with some parsley, globe artichokes, kholrabi and lettuce - Iceberg, Butterhead and Little Gem are also underway and more will follow next weekend when I get control of the cardboard stocks currently taking up space in the greenhouse.
